Some Things I Learned Along The Way
Tis amazing all the things I failed to learn and to remember. But I am sharing some things gathered along my hundred-year sojourn, hoping that they may be of assistance in your own walk. I pray your path will be a blessed walk knowing without God, life makes no sense. With Him is Joy Everlasting - Chose God.-Erma Crow
1. Read somewhere that respect is a human’s greatest need - would think it would be love.
2. Guard against pride. Recall who is in charge. It’s not you and it’s not me.
3. Say or write nothing about anyone you do not wish repeated - for it will be.
4. The most valuable things are not things - They’re not.
5. Life can make you glum or gracious.
6. Without God, life makes no sense.
7. Even to the unkind, be kind.
8. Value and be true to your friends.
9. Respect your neighbors - even those you don’t like much.
10. Keep your appointments.
11. Who has time to be bored?
12. Happiness depends on happenings - Joy depends on Jesus.
13. Failure is the key for trying to please everybody.
14. Sin may touch you but can’t claim you - Grace is available.
15. God knows what is best. I don’t, and you don’t either.
16. My favorite scripture is Hebrew 13:5-6. “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
17. Be patient. We all have problems.
18. Floss your teeth.
19. Give second chances.
20. Write or call someone who might be lonesome: maybe from church or old folks homes; or
surprise someone with a friendly note.
21. Give your place in line and enjoy the feeling of being nice.
22. Be the thoughtful one.
23. Occasionally buy someone a meal or groceries.
24. Be faithful.
25. Be understanding.
26. Be an encourager.
27. Be surprised by the number of returns your smile brings.
28. At this old age, I find to have become addicted to advice-giving - requested or not.
29. Be a friend.
30. Be truthful. It’s difficult to find such people.
31. Take a walk - alone or not.
32. All people aren’t thinking about you. Relax - they are too busy thinking about themselves.
33. Best buy a hummingbird feeder - a couple might come your way.
34. Purchase houseplants and talk to them.
35. One’s answer to an offensive question is: “Why would you want to know that?”
36. Remember to call your grandmother occasionally.
37. Worried? Fill the mind with praise for your Creator. I once read that the mind can think of only
one thought at a time. Fill your mind with gratitude and praise - not worry.
38. Feed the birds.
39. Go to church regularly - it is invaluable.
40. Giving is really more fun than getting - try it.
41. Receiving compliments is fun - even if only halfway true or not.
42. Remember to pray for others often.
43. Don’t judge people by their relatives.
44. Never, never betray a confidence.
45. In their hearing, compliment children to their parents.
46. Stay humble - pride is ridiculous.
47. Afternoon naps are good for you.
48. Don’t take yourself so seriously. Learn to laugh at yourself.
49. Appreciate people - all are God-made.
50. For peace - pray and ask for it.
51. Everyone has problems. Remember the Golden Rule: treat others like you want to be treated.
52. Walk with the wise to be wise.
53. Trust in the Lord. He is God - not you.
54. Get enough sleep.
55. Many adults are only children grown tall.
56. Develop more gratitude.
57. Some of the time I could be wrong and so could you.
58. Be generous, compassionate, truthful, and helpful.
59. Never, never reveal a confidence - never.
60. Respect yourself.
61. Forgive yourself and others.
62. Time is racing - not just fleeing. Make the most of each day!
63. Let your children know how important they are to you.
64. Know this - God is for you. God Is for you. God is For you. God is for You.
65. Travel every chance you get.
66. Enjoy your collection - display it for your own enjoyment.
67. Try being less critical.
68. Pray about all things.
69. Don’t miss the museums when you are in the city.
70. Keep painted nails: fingers and toes.
71. It’s fun visiting thrift stores.
72. Enjoy visiting bookstores.
73. Friends make the world go round - in a far more interesting trip.
74. First impressions are rarely the right one.
75. Everyone isn’t going to like you, but that’s their loss.
76. Always thought there should be a law against children moving more than 20 miles from home.
Now adults and ready-to-be-wonderful friends, they go away. UNFAIR! We need a Law!
77. Just because everyone’s doing it doesn’t make it right.
78. You have character, scruples - guard them!
79. I’m better than I feel most days.
80. Forgive quickly.
81. Be first to apologize. The angry un-forgiveness is too heavy to carry.
82. Never allow others to lead you into doing evil. You know what’s wrong and what’s right.
83. You can learn from others’ blunders.
84. Walk in the Lord’s loving ways.
85. Keep a prayer list and use it.
86. During a disagreement, lower your voice. It is more effective than screaming.
87. Especially appreciate those who are closer to you.
88. Baby squirrels will bite your fingers (I learned that at an early age.)
89. It is possible to be falsely accused.
90. Getting your first white orchid is special.
91. Weeping Willow tree branches are great for hula dancing.
92. Playing tricks you think funny can be very unfunny to others.
93. Turn off TV.
94. Gather wisdom.
95. Be a man or woman of your Word.
96. Never laugh at someone’s fall or spill - have never found that funny.
97. Daily Bible reading is soul-food for the body and the mind.
98. “Please” and “Thank” You are beautiful words. Use them often.
99. Don’t expect everyone else to think or act the same way you think or do - ‘cuz they don’t.
100. Take time to smell the flowers, watch the birds, and read great books.
101. Laugh at yourself when you do dumb things. Be gentle to yourself.
102. It’s easy to be lazy.
103. So-called friends aren’t always true friends.
104. Look into the eyes of those who serve you. Few people do.
105. This wisdom came in the form of a definite No. It had to do with my planned activity
concerning a baby mouse and a coffee grinder. The mouse was rescued but I continue to
remember my great disappointment in the process.
106. Naps are known as horizontal life pauses.
107. If we’re not meant to have midnight snacks, why is there a light in the refrigerator?
108. “We don’t grow older, we grow riper.” (Picasso)
109. I remember when I could bend down and clip my toenails breathing at the same time.
110. If Adam & Eve were Cajuns, they would have eaten the snake and not the apple. That would
eliminate all these problems besieging us.
111. A gentleman opens doors for women - if their Mama raised them right.
112. At 7 yrs old, I played and attended school with a Japanese girl who wore long white cotton
stockings every day and never did I see a smudge of dirt on those white stockings, which proved
to my mind beyond a doubt that impossible can always be possible.
113. There is a time to speak and a time not to speak. Never miss a good chance to shut up.
114. Worry is prohibited - it is an evil tool of Satan. For today is the tomorrow we worried about
yesterday - a heavy useless woe.
